The Sony Ericsson XPERIA brand is giving birth to an Android platform monster smartphone with the codename Sony Ericsson Rachel. The Release date in Australia may be late 2009 or the early part of 2010. Rachael’s retail price is still a mystery, but it is competing with the HTC Hero, the iPhone 3G S, as well as the Samsung Galaxy, so it may be in the AU$1,000 range more or less. The Rachael is the first smartphone in the XPERIA line to offer the Google Android platform. It is powered by a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Sony Ericsson is planning to run the new 2.0 version of the Android operating system, which will be available at the end of 2009. The full-touch 4” 800 x 480 pixel WVGA resolution screen is big enough to enjoy all the media features of a Sony Ericsson phone, as well as the 3D graphic features incorporated into the system.
